TomorrowNow – Manitoba’s Green Plan: Toward a New Provincial Climate Change and Green Economy Plan

A New Provincial Climate Change and Green Economy Plan: Reducing Emissions, Enhancing our Resilience to Climate Change and Building a Green Economy

Canada’s Ecofiscal Commission’s Research Director, Dale Beugin, is one of the presenters.

The objective of this policy dialogue session is to provide an opportunity to:

  • Discuss ways to address barriers to low-carbon, climate resilient growth in Manitoba.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce emissions, increase competitiveness, mitigate carbon, and adapt to a changing climate in Manitoba.
  • Discuss specific policy tools and actions that the government and the private sector can undertake to enable transition to a green economy.

The desire for this session is to provide a path forward for the broader analysis and policy development required for the new Climate Change and Green Economy Action Plan for Manitoba. An essential aspect is ensuring the outcomes will result in actions required to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the province; to increase resilience to climate change; and to benefit from the social, environmental and economic advantages of greening our economy and jobs.

To see that we are on the right pathway, we will be looking to engage discussion on the following topics:

  • What should be the key principles and priorities for Manitoba’s climate change and green economy action plan? What would you like to see in place in 20 years from now to enable Manitoba to effectively contribute to a vibrant, sustainable and climate resilient future?
  • Where are the opportunities for the government and stakeholders to promote the transition to a green economy in the peat sector? Can we promote this transition in ways that capitalize on the potential synergies between efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase resilience to climate risks?
  • Which specific policy tools and actions should the government strengthen or introduce to enable stakeholders to reduce emissions and increase the climate resilience of Manitoba?
